Getting to Nendaz
Nendaz is easily accessible by train, bus, or car. Here are a few tips for your journey.
Travel Options
Train to Sion
The IR90 train travels directly from Geneva Airport via Geneva Centre and Lausanne, taking approximately 2 hours. Train tickets can be bought at the machines in Geneva Airport and cost around CHF50. Trains depart approximately every 20 minutes. Turn left once you have left the arrivals area; the station is a 10-minute walk through the airport concourse.
There is a supermarket and also some sandwich shops in the airport train station. Our favourite is Hugge, which is right outside the arrivals area.
Arriving in Sion, you can take the PosteBus right outside the station. We have managed to get a train 20 minutes after landing, but that was very tight.
Poste Bus
PosteBus number 362 can take you up the mountain from Sion station to Haute-Nendaz. The yellow buses depart from the bus stop opposite the station and take about 40 minutes. When you get off the train, go to the side of the station with the escalators. The closest stop to the chalet is bif. Le Deserteur, one before the Haute Nendaz telecabine stop, which is about a 10-minute uphill walk to the chalet. The cost is approximately CHF 15 per person, payable in cash.
Car
Travel time from Geneva is around 2 hours, travelling around the north side of Lake Leman on the A1 and A9. To get to the car rental, turn right from arrivals. The car rental desks are at the end of the concourse. Take the car rental bus to pick up your car. This can take some time because the bus has to go around the airport, and we often walk instead.
We recommend turning off at Sion to travel up the mountain as the road from Counthey is relatively narrow. The chalet features two double garages for cars, so parking is easy. The road up to the chalet is steep, and there are some tight turns, so be careful driving up. The road is cleared of snow, but we always use snow tires in winter. I have also used snow socks for the car after snowfall. There is a place at the bottom of the road to put these on if needed.
There is an excellent stop with about 30 minutes remaining at the Relais du Saint-Bernard near Martigny, where a Coop and local fresh food are available.
